Our Cricketers Score again

The Jayendra Cricket Academy T20 Tournament was held this year between from 23 to 26 January.

Eight teams took part in the competition which was held at the India Cements Ground. We are very fortunate to able to use this excellent ground with its grass wicket. Even the grass on the outfield was in very good condition which meant the braver fielders could dive.  This led to some agressive fielding and exciting matches.

In the first round the Jayendra team beat Francis Xavier’s by 4 wickets which qualified us for the semi – finals where we beat St. John’s Kalakad by 72 runs.

In the final against Bell School they won the toss and opted to field. Jayendra scored 115 in their 20 overs and Bell could only manage 82 – so a good win by 33 runs.

Two Jayendrans got special mentions: the man of the match was won by S Siva Namachivayam and G Sriram got the most promising player award.

Cricketing Stars

The Rotarian Dinesh P Khanna Memorial South India Level Inter Academy Under 17 Cricket Tournament was hosted by the RKV Cricket Academy in Trichy between 25.12.15 and 01.01.16 and was contested by club and school sides from Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Teams from eight districts took part.

Our first match against Ooty was won by 70 runs and M Surya was named Man of the Match.

We went on to beat the Salem team by 9 wickets and then victory over Trichy by 69 runs (39 scored by Kanaga Subranian in a fine performance) took us to the semi-final in which Chennai was beaten by 50 runs.

In the finals against Kerala we batted first scoring 203 for 6 in our 30 overs. Kerala managed 131 for 9 giving us victory by 72 runs: a stunning result which won us the trophy.

Our  batting was outstanding throughout the tournament but it was the strength of our bowling that devastated the opposition.

This superb performance was made possible by vigorous practice, the professional and dedicated coaching by our coach Mr. Rajasekaran, and the spirit and confidence of the players.

It was a moment of pride for all Jayendrans as our cricketers excelled and brought laurels to the school. Our principal, Management and staff felicitated the Coach, Players and Physical education department in the school assembly for their wonderful performance.

Teachers’ Day Celebrations – Pasumai Bharatha Vriksha Thiruvizha

Teachers’ Day was celebrated with a difference as Vrisha Thiruvizha at Sri Jayendra School, Sankarnagar. Teachers and Trees are similar in many ways. Just as how trees selflessly contribute to the people and the world, so too teachers contribute to the children and the people of the society. Also trees serve as teachers in many ways, as they witness as partners in our learning, playing, and growing. It was most appropriate that Teachers’ Day was celebrated as Vrisha Thiruvizha , when teachers and students spent the day planting saplings in and around the school , which will continue in the days to come when trees will be planted along the 2 kms road leading to the school from Chidambara Nagar.

Mr. Petchi Pandian, the chairman of the Sankarnagar Township, Mr.Palani, the Executive Officer of Sankarnagar Township, Mr.Selventhiran, Regional Manager, Hindu,  Fr. Antony Cruz, Mr. Krishi and Mr.Narasimha Raja took part in the function and planted saplings. The Principal, Mrs. Usha Raman welcomed the audience; Mr.Selventhiran spoke about the importance of teachers in the lives of students by quoting incidents  from  the life of Tendulkar. The school choir rendered songs with messages about our environment, composed by the school music master Mr.Jesurajan and trained by Mrs. Ganga Mani and Mrs. Pratheeba.

This mission is a joint project executed along with Pasumai Bharatham, a movement initiated by the teachers and students of Sri Jayendra the school to work for the conservation and greening of our environment. Pasumai Bharatham aims to plant 1000 trees within one year and they have already succeeded in planting   500 trees within the last six months.

A visit by a Team from USA

A team of 10 youth volunteers led by three adults from Hindu American Temple Cultural Centre and Sringeri  Vidya  Bharathi Foundation INC. USA visited us this year and stayed with us for two weeks.

This was our first visit by volunteers from the States.

During their stay they extended their support for teaching conversational English both in Sri Jayendra and GKV. They also got very involved with dance, craft, science and computer projects with small groups of children. India’s Independence Day coincided with their visit and this gave them a chance to perform along with our school students at the District Independence Day Celebrations in the Anna Stadium. Their participation in the cultural events and dances brought them very close to the students of Sri Jayendra and made their visit exciting and fun filled. They enjoyed their stay very much and  left with a heavy heart, promising that they will all return next year. We very much hope they will and look forward to their return.
