Competitions and Seminars

The pupils are very keen on entering quiz competitions and teams are successful every year in such General Knowledge competitions as:

  • Young World Quiz (organized by The Hindu newspaper)
  • Mathew Alakalam Quiz
  • Sivanthi Adithanar Quiz (Organised by an Engineering College)
  • Puthiya Thalaimurai TV Channel and Magazine Quiz

In recent years our pupils have been very successful in the National Science Seminar  performing well at District, State and National level (click here to find out more). In this competition a X Standard Student gives a PowerPoint presentation on a given scientific topic.

  • Shibu LiJack was State First and National Second in 2007
  • Naveen Anto was State First and National Second in 2009
  • Ganeshwar was State and National First in 2012 and was rewarded with a trip to Poland to visit Madame Curie’s birthplace

These successes should be read with the realisation that the State has a population of 90 million and the country a population of 1.3 billion: to come first is a considerable achievement.



GATE:    Golden All-round Talent Exposition

GATE is an annual competition between the four houses at Sri Jayendra – Arthreya, Kaushika, Valthula and Srivatsa. Teams of all ages compete in about thirty competitions in such areas as:

  • Performing Arts: Dance, Singing, Instrumental performance, Drama
  • Public Speaking including ‘Turncoat’: the speaker gives both sides of an argument, Extempore Speaking: 30 minutes warning is given of the subject, ‘Just a minute’ : no warning is given of the subject of a 60 second speech
  • Drawing, Painting, Art from Waste, Fashion Show, Rangolis
  • Science Quiz, General Knowledge Quiz, Web Design, PowerPoint presentations

These competitions are hugely popular with the pupils giving them as they do an opportunity to showcase their varied talents. Much preparation is done over several weeks for the three full days of competition.
