Budding Scientist – IGNITE 2013 Young Scientist Award

It was a great feather in our cap when our student Gautham Praveen received the Young Scientist Award IGNITE-2013 from the golden hands of Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam .

On 19th February 2014 at the Indian Institute of Management,  Ahmedabad, Gujarat,  the former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam  distributed the Young Scientist Awards to the winners of the Ignite Science Competition.

The competition is organised by the National Innovation Foundation (NIF) part of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, situated  in Ahmedabad, Gujarat .The annual IGNITE Science competition is designed to motivate young minds towards science.  This year 20,836 projects were  received of which NIF selected only 38 Projects for IGNITE Awards.  We were proud and delighted to learn that Gautham Praveen’s project t titled EASY BULB FIXER was one of the  38 winning projects.

During the morning session, all the award winners were requested to share their experiences with the audience and other winners.  Jayendra students are always well prepared in such situations and Gautham was the only one who explained his project to the audience with a video presentation . The 2 minute presentation impressed  the audience.

In the afternoon session,  Padmashree Professor Dr Anil Gupta,  CEO of National Innovation Foundation, welcomed  the gathering and explained the aim of IGNITE competitions.

Then  Dr APJ Abdul Kalam visited all the award winning projects.  Dr Kalam interacted with Gautham about his innovative project “EASY BULB FIXER” for several minutes.

The award winners receive not only the citation for their winning ideas but also a copy of the patents for their innovative product that have been filed in their names.

They also receive mentoring from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad to advise on their higher studies.
