The television channel Pudhuyugam conducted its popular Quiz competition ‘Vina, Vidai, Vettai’ (literally ‘Question, Answer, Hunt’ – it sounds better in Tamil!) for school students in March. The quiz tests knowledge of Indian culture, sports, politics, history, daily happenings, etc.
Over 300 schools from all over Tamil Nadu took part in the preliminary test on March 1, 2014 in Chennai. The Sri Jayendra team came first with the highest score and was therefore one of the sixteen teams who went on to the final.
A week later, the shooting commenced. Our team maintained consistency and succeeded in gaining the top position in all the six levels which took us to the Grand Finale where we emerged as the champions of Vina, Vidai Vettai – Juniors. The Quiz team S. Srinidhi, [X Standard], G.K. Sriram [X], and R. Balaji [IX] were awarded not only the Rolling Trophy for the school but they also carried off the a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh.
The show was broadcasted between 11 a.m. to 12 noon every Sunday on the Pudhuyugam channel for three months. In the School assembly the Principal and Correspondent felicitated the students in the team and the staff members Mrs. Subhashini & Mrs. Kalpana who had done so much to train the team and enabled them to meet with such spectacular success.
