373 teams competed vigorously in the regional finals of The Hindu Young World Quiz 2013. This eagerly awaited annual event was held at the Chamber of Commerce Hall, Madurai on 9th November. Students from 105 schools representing the southern districts of Tamilnadu took part.
Teams of two competed in the preliminary round which consisted of 25 questions covering science, history, sports, epics, cinema, cartoons, literature, politics, logo and geography. The six best performing teams then entered the final: their names were announced to much excited anticipation by Quizmaster V.V. Ramanan
Jayendrans R.Balaji and N.Madhav of IX Standard emerged as the toppers in the preliminary round with the brilliant score of 23 marks. In a keenly contested Final they maintained a steady lead and emerged as the champions after shattering all opposition: they finished with 122 points against the 85 of the runners up.
The winners walked away with the cash prize of Rs.10,000/-, trophies, certificates and gifts from various sponsors.
Regional rounds of the competition started in October in Thiruvananthapuram with the last regional round held in Delhi at the end of November. The winning teams from all these rounds will compete in the Grand Final in Bangalore on 5th December. Balaji and Madhav will be proud to take part and we wish them every success.
