The Hindu Young World Quiz 2019
The regional round of The Young World Quiz’s season 19 was held in theauditorium at Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, Madurai on February 19, 2019. The teams were divided into junior (Class IV to VI) and senior (Classes VII to IX) category. The event saw a total of 260 teams competing in the senior category (Classes 7-9) and a total of 152 teams in the junior category (Classes 4-6).The participants were from seven southern districts.
The prelims kicked off with a written round with 25 questions. In the junior category our class 6 students Srivatsan and Vishal with their outstanding performance went on to the stage as one of the six finalists.
In the seniors category two teams from our school received accolades from the quiz master for their extra ordinary performance in the preliminary written round. They were the toppers in the preliminary round and were called upon to take their hot seats on the stage for the most exciting finals.
It witnessed neck and neck competition between Mahatma school Madurai and Our school teams. Our students Sanjana and Induvarsha of class 9 and Saktivel and Ramvenkateswaran of class 8 were the first and second runners-up in the seniors category, They were awarded with trophies, goodies, watches and certificates.
JAYENDRANS SHOWCASED QUIZZING TALENT ONCE AGAIN IN THE NATIONAL LEVEL
National Council of Science Museums, Ministry of Culture, Government of India at Birla Institute of Technology and Museums in Kolkatta conducted a National Level Quiz on the Life and works of Mahatma Gandhi to commemorate the 150 th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Initially the State level competition was conducted on 2 October 2018, in which our students Sanjana and Indhu Varsha of class 9 stood first.
On January 29, 2019 in Kolkatta in Birla Institute of Technology and Museum we took part in the Semi Finals in which the toppers of all the states of India participated. The first place winner from each pool was selected to play in the most awaited National Finals. Our students played very well, reached first place and qualified to enter the National Finals.
The Finals was held on January 30, 2019 which consisted of many innovative and exciting rounds. Every team on stage representing their state played extremely well and from the beginning there was a neck to neck competition with almost equal scores.
Our students once again showcased their quizzing talent by bagging Third place . Dr.Jawhar Sircar, Former secretary, Department of Culture, Government of India was the chief guest for the occasion. Our students were awarded beautiful trophies and 20,000 cash prize.
A special Trophy with the miniature of Gandhiji was also given to our school.
Our students said this quiz gave them excited flight trip, loveable memories, new exposure and above all they learnt many life skills and values through the preparation for this quiz.
Three Prizes in the Sivanti State Level Talent Show!
Sivanti College of Engineering, Tiruchendur conducted a Sate Level Talent Show & Project Expo for School Students on January 4, 2019.
We participated in all the three competitions conducted by the college. Our school students bagged First place in the Group Dance, Third Place in the English Elocution and Consolation Prize in the Science Project Competitions. The Prize winners were awarded a certificate and cash prize in the Prize distribution Ceremony conducted in the college campus on the same day. The Prize winners were appreciated in the school assembly by our Principal Mrs. Usha Raman.
ON A MISSION TO GROW 1000 PALM TREES
Our School Music Master Mr.Jesurajan, also the founder of our school’s voluntary organization ‘Pasumai Baratham’ on December 10, 2018 initiated planting of Palm tree seeds on the banks of the Kalkurichi Tank near Rajavallipuram.
200 students from class 8, few staff, Mr. Jesurajan and our Principal Mrs. Usha Raman went to the spot in our school bus to execute the plan. In a bid to increase the population of Palm trees this drive was taken. We involved the students in this program to create the awareness of the innumerous benefits of Palm tree which is also our State tree. If the growth of palm trees is focused in a right way, palm tree products will help the society to move away from the plastic by providing us eco friendly packing materials.
The Staff and students enthusiastically planted the seeds along the tank banks and some local villagers also volunteered and participated in the mission. Around 1000 seeds of Palm trees were planted.
Third Hat trick in the State Level Quiz
Sivanti College of Engineering, Tiruchendur every year conducts a State Level General Quiz on Children’s day for the students of classes 10 to 12. This year also on November 14, 2018, they conducted the Sivanti Quiz. Schools from different districts of Tamilnadu took part in the Preliminary written round. From the Preliminary round 18 teams were selected to participate in the Semi Finals. The 18 teams were divided in to three pools consisting of 6 teams in each pool. The first two place winners from each pool were selected for the Finals which was played on the Stage.
Our students V.Sri Siva Murugan and B.Selvamuthu Balaji of class 12 and 11 answered very well and maintained the lead right from the first round. Finally they won the first place with the difference of 60 points and grabbed the Sivanti Quiz Cup for the Ninth Consecutive year.
The Annual Assessment Camp for Physically Challenged
Every year in collaboration with Freedom Trust we organize orthopedic camp for physically challenged and provide them with orthotic equipment and prosthetics. India Cements also extend their support for this camp. 25.11.2018 Sunday, the initial patients’ assessment camp was held in our school. Many old students joined along with the Interact Club members to volunteer. 61 patients were assessed. There were many amputees. The distribution camp will be held on the 19th of December when prosthetics and other equipment will be distributed to the patients.
Outstanding Performance in Puranava Quiz 2018 !
M.J.Sanjana & M.G.Indhuvarsha of class 9 with a massive score of 250 points culminated as the Proud Champions and Overall Toppers in the Grand Finale of Puranava Quiz 2018, An Indian Heritage Quiz for the School Students on August 18, 2018 in Madurai. These two students made the history by getting the highest score in the preliminary written test conducted in the month of July across Tamilnadu in 20 zones. The top 24 scorers from the 20 zones took part in the Semi Finals and in that too our students reached the highest score.
The Global Organisation of Divinity the organizers of this Heritage Quiz appreciated our students and awarded them Gold coins, Trophy and Wrist Watches. For achieving the overall top performance a Trophy was awarded to the school. The students and the staff behind the success of the students were appreciated and honoured in the school assembly by our Principal Mrs. Usha Raman.
RUNNERS IN NEC STATE LEVEL QUIZ
National Engineering College, Kovilpatti conducted a state level quiz competition for the Higher Secondary Students on October 31, 2018. The Quiz was hosted by the Quiz master Dr.Sumanth C. Raman. The Competition drew participation from 108 teams representing various schools in Tamilnadu. Sri Siva Murugan -XII and Selva Muthu Balaji-XI , our consistent and dynamic quizzers represented our school. A written prelims with a power point projection was conducted by Dr.Sumanth C. Raman for the 108 teams. Out of that the top 8 teams were called upon on stage to take part in the Finlas. In the Prelims our students and Madurai TVS School boys scored 15 ½ marks out of 20 which was announced as the first mark for the prelims.
The Finals was conducted very differently by the Quiz master throwing all the questions open to buzzer. Totally there were 8 rounds, out of which 7 rounds were buzzer. So the whole vent was like a life or death for the teams on stage. The last round of the show was long connectivity. 8 clues were shown one after another on the screen and whoever cracks the theme will be awarded bonus points. It was our students who cracked the theme and scored 20 bonus points. Inspite of that we were able to won the Second place in this State Level Quiz. Our students were awarded 15000/ cash prize.
In the school assembly they were appreciated by Our Principal and our special Guests Mr.William Winfield and Mr.Paul Bickerdike.
