On October 25^th Jayendrans gave a warm welcome to Mr William Winfield and Mrs Margaret Winfield our distinguished and cherished friends. Mr. Winfield, now retired, was the Headmaster of Mill Hill School and he initiated the partnership with Sri Jayendra.

As with all of their visits (this was their fifth) they had a wonderful and positive impact on the staff and children.

The students of classes 9 and 11 very much benefited from Mr. Winfield’s fantastic English Classes while the younger children from classes 6 to 8 enjoyed being taught by Mrs Winfield.

During their stay they inaugurated the new reading room in the library and, as a part of the Pasumai Bharatham programme, helped plant saplings  in and around G.K.V school.

On their final evening, the 30^th October, a farewell party and get together was organised in the Priory Conference Centre. The school choir performed songs in various world languages and there was a display of fusion dance which was much enjoyed.

 After the dinner we bid our fond farewells: we hope to see them again soon.

Sowdambika College of Engineering, Aruppukottai conducted a quiz competition for school students on November 7, 2014 in their college. The preliminary and Screening tests were conducted in the districts of Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Madurai 2 weeks prior to this. Four teams with top scores from each district were qualified to take part in the Final round.

Two teams from our school qualified for the Finals. These were held on November 7^th in three different phases. Each covered fields like Science and Technology, World Events, Famous personalities, Books & Authors, English Vocabulary etc.  Srinidi of class XI and Balaji of class X performed extremely  well and they were appreciated by all for their brilliant play. They took the First Prize with a cash award of Rs.15,000/ The other team Santhosh of class XI and Maheshrajan of class X also performed well and came fifth.

The Info USA Quiz for school students is conducted by the US Consulate General.

This year Ms Andie De Arment, Cultural Affairs Officer in the Public Affairs Section at the US Consulate in Chennai  conducted the quiz at the Lady Doak College in  Madurai as part of the “Experience America” programme.

 The programme is designed to raise awareness and knowledge among Indian students of the various facets of  American society and culture.

 Nearly 20 schools from the Southern districts of Madurai, Tuticorin and Tirunelveli took part. 10 teams qualified  for the semifinal and the best five, which included the Sri Jayendra team,  competed in the Grand Final.

Jayendra pupils  S. Srinidhi of XI and R. Balaji of X emerged victorious  after a thrilling final when they were first to answer questions on such diverse topics  as American Politics, History,  Geography and even  Cartoon characters.

Their performance won the appreciation of all and they deserve our congratulations.
