On 18th October Dr Sivanthi Adithanar College of Engineering, Tiruchendur conducted a State level Science Exhibit Competition for school students of classes 6 to 12.
Teams of pupils from 55 schools in Tuticorin and Tirunelveli districts entered inventions and exhibits. Students from the Engineering College helped them organise the displays and many visiting pupils from the schools who entered the competition showed a keen interest in the displays and gained great benefit from watching the demonstrations.
Sri Jayendra were represented by Balaji and Kaveri of class 12. Â They presented a system they had designed to improve domestic water tanks filled from the town supply. Their ideas were to prevent sediment by having a filling system that kept the water swirling to keep particles in suspension, to prevent syphon losses to other tanks in the circuit and to have a method for displaying the water level in the tank.
The theme of the project, the pupils excellent demonstration, fluency in communication and relevant answers to the questions asked by the judges earned them First Place in the competition. Their prize of Rs 15,000/- and a cup will be presented in February at a special ceremony at the College.
